There are two bugs that have been driving me absolutely bonkers this summer…Mosquito’s and Gnats. While I loathe both of them equally (maybe a touch heavier on the gnat loathing) this particular blog is about the one that bites.
Are you a mosquito magnet? Apparently, I am and I would like to know why. Believe it or not mosquito’s are more attracted to some people than others, even though this time of year it may feel like they are attracted to all of us equally, I assure you – they like me best.
Research in pinpointing what exactly the mosquito’s are looking for in their next big bite is still ongoing, but there are some things we know for sure… Only female mosquito’s bite!
Most attractive humans (to mosquito’s):
Pregnant ladies – yes, indeed, along with the growing belly, swollen feet and numerous aches and pains for 9 whole months, for at least some of those months you are the tastiest treat. That is because a pregnant women’s body temperature is a degree higher than everyone else and they emit a lot of carbon dioxide. Mosquito’s LOVE carbon dioxide.
Drinking Alcohol – if you are having a beer while you are out grilling, you become instantly more appealing and not after the second or third – right there with the first one – they can smell it and are coming for you. (Dear Corona, we have to part for awhile)
Blood Type – Type O is most appealing, then Type B, leaving Type A to be the least appealing. Wouldn’t you know it…I am Type O. (Dear Blood Type…we need to talk)
Exercising – Working out is supposed to be a good thing, but to a mosquito it is like a private party with a special invitation just for them. Your heavy breathing is putting out more carbon dioxide (remember they like this) and your sweat is releasing lactic acid which they also really like. The solution for this is to find a nice lounge chair when you are outside and be at rest – you are less appealing this way. (Dear Exercise, I never liked you anyway)
Well, now that I know why I am so appealing I really must figure out what to do about it.
