It is Easter weekend and with that comes a multitude of things; flowers are blooming, the air is getting warmer, the days are getting longer, Spring Break is here or quickly approaching for most kids and there are endless amounts of things to be joyful about.
Spring brings fresh life to everything in nature and we should take our queue to help improve things around our house as well. Help your home come to life again by painting your front door a fresh new color and plant some colorful flowers around your entry way. Once the pollen has its say, open all the windows and change the air in your home.
This is also a good opportunity to thoroughly check your home including your attic and crawl space to see what repairs may be needed. Has an area gotten wet? If there is some mold and mildew it is best to deal with it quickly and not let it get out of hand. Does your basement need a vapor barrier? Does your attic need new insulation? You may even notice a little critter wintered up there and it is time for its eviction papers. Everyone gets a little sluggish during the winter so spring is the perfect time to perk back up and knock out some repairs.
Other important tips are to change your HVAC filters and keep your dryer vent cleaned out. If you have the ability to plant a small shade tree near your outside air condition unit it will help it to stay cooler and run more efficiently this summer. It is also a great time to have your air condition unit serviced so it is ready to go when the heat rolls in. The honey-do list is never ending so tackling a few things at a time is imperative to staying on top of your home’s maintenance. The quickest way for your home to decrease in value is for you to not take care of it. Spending a little time, money and elbow grease each month can prevent it from falling into disrepair and really costing you big bucks.
