What’s in store for your home in 2017? A new kitchen? Perhaps a bathroom upgrade? There are a whole lot of articles out right now on what the biggest home trends will be this year and apparently the color green is making a big comeback. I don’t really think much about that. Maybe, if you are a super trendy person that can afford to change out tile again in the next few years you should go for it, but if you are person who wants to get the longest life possible out of an update, you stick to simple colors.
Let’s play a little game of Fashion vs. The Plumber…
Fashion says – Green is the new hot color.
Plumber says… A green blanket or pillow is just as fine as any other color, but in kitchens and bathrooms, stick to white and other neutrals.
Fashion says – Smart tech everywhere
Plumber says… Some smart tech is great; new programmable thermostats save energy and the homeowner money and tech that allows you to make sure your doors are locked seems good too, but who really needs to check the temperature of their fridge while they are away? That seems a bit unnecessary.
Fashion says – Marble, Marble, Marble
Plumber says… Marble has a beautiful, timeless look and is definitely worth the expense if you use it in the right places, like backsplashes or countertops that will not be used frequently. Having marble as a kitchen countertop in a frequently used kitchen may cause you some headaches with how easily it can stain and chip.
Fashion says – Bars are moving out of the basement and on to the main level.
Plumber says… Sure, why not? Just be responsible about it. If you have underage people in your home you may want to figure out a way to lock that stuff up.
Fashion says – Shiny is out and Matte is in when it comes to fixtures and appliances.
Plumber says…Whatever floats your boat, but when you change out fixtures, appliances and even tile, that is the best time to take a look at your plumbing lines and see what needs an upgrade or simple replacement so you don’t have to rip out your pretty new bathroom just to replace what’s behind the wall.
