With multiple water crisis’ last year and I am not talking about droughts, I am talking about contaminated drinking water that was previously assumed to be safe consumers are getting more and more concerned about what is coming into their homes. Thankfully, you do not have to resort to only drinking bottled water there are several different ways to filter water before you drink it.
There are 3 basic ways to filter water before you drink it – through the tap, through a pitcher or through a whole house filtration system. While filtering your water is hands down less expensive than only using bottled water, not to mention better for the environment, not every filtering system will meet your needs or your budget.
So, what’s the difference?
When you use a pitcher or a filter at the tap it is only filtering the water that you are consuming. They are inexpensive and quick solutions to having your drinking water filtered before you or your family consumes it. Depending on your needs and how contaminated you fear your water is this may be best solution, but for others a whole house filtration system may be the way to go.
A whole house filtration doesn’t just filter the water you drink, it filters all of the water that enters your home. This is an important difference because while you may not care about the quality of water that you wash your clothes in, you probably do care about the quality of water that you cook with, wash your dishes with, brush your teeth with, bathe your children in….on and on. So, there is a pretty big difference in filtering out just the water that you drink vs. all of the water that you use in your home.
Each municipality treats their water differently, some may have too much fluoride or not enough of this or that, but they all have chemicals and as we are learning more about with each passing year, chemicals, while sometimes necessary, are not good for us.
