I know what you are thinking…you are wondering what is wrong with me because I wrote a little tribute for the mother’s out there on mother’s day, but then father’s day rolls around a-n-d…nothing. That’s right, nothing. You get a blog about kids and toilets. Not even the slightest mention that you might need a dad to grab a plunger and try to undo what the kid did. It’s terrible!
Now you might also be wondering if I don’t have a dad or maybe I feel like dads don’t deserve the same recognition as moms and so on and so forth. Well, once again, I may disappoint. I have nothing as interesting as a little drama for my oversight. Although, I suppose I could make something up for pure enjoyment, but my reason was much, much more lame. I forgot. Ring the bells, sound the alarm, press the panic button – I FORGOT. I didn’t forget all the way up to father’s day – I just forgot leading up to when that last blog was posted so I guess, really, that is good for my father because until now he didn’t know I forgot.
I hope you got to spend some time with your dad and if you didn’t, try to do it soon. Time moves by so quickly and things seem to be changing faster than ever so when you have a free moment take it to be with your dad.
You don’t have to do anything elaborate. If, by chance, you find it difficult to converse with your dad, just go sit with him, you don’t really have to talk to spend time with him. In fact, I heard a teenager say recently, “He is alright, except when he tries to make small talk and then it is just awkward.” He was saying this about his grandfather which made me laugh because it seems like anyone who is talking to him at this stage in his life is “awkward”, but my point was you really don’t have to talk. Go fishing – there is no talking in fishing.
That’s the biggest difference between making your mother happy and making your father happy – your father is happy to be acknowledged and fine to sit with you in silence, moms want to talk.
