Happy 4th of July, America!! This holiday is big on food, fun and fireworks and leaves everyone in a happy mood. With so much going on, and often times with a lot of people around, it is important to remember to be safe on this long holiday weekend.
Growing up we had a large family that always came together for holidays and I can still remember my grandfather grilling hamburgers, my uncle slicing huge pieces of watermelon and my aunts making homemade ice cream. It was awesome and left me feeling loved and happy all summer long. While you are grilling this weekend and making your memories remember to do it away from anything else that may catch on fire – like a tree, your deck or even your house. Catching anything on fire would be a bummer because who wants a burned burger? But catching your house on fire would definitely take awhile to move on from.
There is nothing better than jumping into a lake or pool on a hot summers day! Heck, when it’s steamy outside I will even take being pelted with water balloons in order to cool off, but regardless of what kind of water you will be around you need to be aware and safe. If you will be out boating make sure you have enough life jackets for everyone on board and make sure little ones are in life jackets that are appropriate for their size. When swimming, make sure you keep your eyes on little ones at all times. Even ones that know how to swim and know the safety rules can get into a troubling situation very quickly.
Fireworks are awesome! They are so pretty and never lose their wonder no matter how old you are. Of course, it is best to let the professionals handle the fireworks and you just enjoy the show, but I know there are people (some who may or may not live with me) that will insist on having their own private fireworks show. If this is case, Rule #1 -Don’t Drink and Firework, Rule #2 – Don’t light more than one and give it some time to go – don’t stick your face in it and Rule #3 – Keep everyone else far, far away. Also, be courteous to your neighbors, most will not call the police if you do your show at normal hours, but if you are blasting fireworks after 10PM all bets are off and people will start calling. If you are still doing it at midnight consider yourself extremely inconsiderate, not overly festive.
Carmine’s wishes everyone a very happy and safe 4th of July! As always, call us 203-791-8089 for any of your plumbing and A/C needs this week.
