Valentine’s Day is coming up and even the thought of it makes most men I know grown with displeasure. Most don’t like being “forced” to be romantic and claim it is just a “greeting card” holiday created to get people to spend money. I suppose that is one way to look at it… a very negative, grumpy, unpleasant way, but a way nonetheless.
I prefer to look at it as a fun little day to remind the people in your life (from young to old) that you love them. It is especially fun for all my little people, they get really excited about giving Valentine’s to their friends at school and usually we give them a little something special at home too, but this year I want to switch it up a bit. I don’t want to give them another box of candy. This year, I think I will go through the house and leave my Valentine’s tapped to their doors – just little notes on the things I love most about each one of them. I am sure they will love that, just as much as candy, right?
Who am I kidding? I will totally leave candy for them too.
I also thought it would be nice to actually try to be romantic this year. We usually have zero romance. Not because we have don’t love each other or have a bad relationship, but, I mean, who has the time for that? With what feels like a hundred kids and at least 90 jobs, who can possibly muster time for romance, but maybe, on just this one night, I will light a candle while we have dinner and we may even sit down and eat together. If actual words are spoken while we eat – meaning there is food, candlelight and conversation one of us may faint. For sure, we will have to get up and make sure we are in the right house.
I can really up our romance game and leave a little chocolate on our pillows. One of us may have enough energy to eat it before we fall asleep. I will probably forget it’s there and brush my teeth first so I will not eat it because I will not have the energy to brush my teeth again before falling asleep. Do you know what that means…when you choose freshly brushed teeth over a little taste of chocolate? It means you are old. I embrace my oldness, only at night, after my teeth are brushed.
Whether you like Valentine’s Day or not, it’s nice to do kind things for the people you love. Go out of your way just a little bit Tuesday, February 14, just for fun and see what good things come back around. Carmine’s wishes each and every one of you just a little extra love and kindness this week and if you need us for any heating, plumbing or cooling problems call us at 203-791-8089.
