Have you been putting off getting a new air conditioner? Well, there’s no time like the present! You want one that will keep your family cool without busting the budget and you want to make sure you are not sold something that you don’t actually need. Right?
There are 3 very important things to keep in mind when you are looking for your next A/C unit:
- Size – in this instance, size is very important and bigger does NOT mean better. Contrary to popular belief, a physically larger unit will not necessary cool your home any faster. This is because air conditioners remove both heat and humidity from your home. If you have an oversized unit that cools your home too quickly, you will be left with moisture in the air and feel uncomfortable.
Air Conditioners are measured by their BTU’s or, British Thermal Units, which means their cooling capacity.
Just like you do not want a unit that is too large, you also do not want a unit that is too small because it will be running continuously and using up a lot of energy (translation = money) unnecessarily.
You need an A/C that is just the right size to maximize comfort levels and efficiency and our certified technicians can help you find the one that is best for you.
- Efficiency – as mentioned above, the efficiency of the unit plays a big part in how effective the unit is and how comfortable you are. Efficiency is measured in SEERs or, Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratings.
The SEER range is usually between 13 and 20 (sometimes over), the closer you are to 20 the more efficient your unit is. So, if you have 2 units that have similar BTU’s but one has a lower SEER rating than the other – the higher rated unit will cool your home faster thus lowering your energy bill.
- Maintenance – you must maintain your units. So many people feel like this is an unnecessary expense, but it is truly the best way to ensure that your unit is able to operate the way it is intended to. Air conditioners have many moving parts and at anything could come lose and start trouble.
Keep your air filters changed and have your unit serviced each year.
