Well, it’s a wrap folks. January is officially over. How did those New Year’s resolutions pan out? Did you fare pretty well or crash and burn completely? I bet half of you are thinking, “Dang! What were my resolutions this year? I don’t even remember!”
I’ll refresh your memory… “save more, spend less, exercise more, eat better, take more time for yourself, spend more time with your family, etc.” The biggest one for me this year was to exercise more. I now have an elliptical machine and it does a great job of haunting me, calling to me…”you have not been on me…you will have wasted a lot of money if you do not get on me…you REALLY need to use me”.
When I used it for the first time, I did so with gusto. I had a plan and I was sticking to it! I was going to use my new elliptical machine for 20 minutes at least 5 days a week, which means I am taking weekends off. Well…let me tell you how that plan worked out. After 2 minutes and 30 seconds, I wanted off that thing and to never, ever get on it again. I forced myself to stay on it for another 5 minutes out of sheer embarrassment. Thank goodness I was in the privacy of my own home and not at a gym!
I am sticking with it though and it has gotten easier. I still have my goal of 20 minutes, 5 days a week, but I have lowered my expectations just a little. I am currently at 10 minutes and hope to increase by 2 minutes each week until I reach my goal and then exceed it. Those first 3 minutes are the hardest every time. I don’t know why, but my body and mind protest against what I am trying to make them do. They scream at me to STOP THE MADNESS!! But I will not! I will be successful! (maybe, possibly, we’ll see…)
If you have given up on your resolutions already, go back to them and try again. If you are still plugging along, stick with it. It will get easier and it will be so worth it!
