Have you started using your humidifier yet? If you are using your furnace, you should also be using a humidifier. Humidity is about having the right balance of moisture in the air. In the summer, too much humidity can make it hard to catch your breath. Too much humidity can contribute to allergy and asthma problems as well as promoting bacteria, mold, and dust in your home.
Too little humidity also causes problems. While we are all aware that having our furnace on dries out our skin and lips, too little humidity also allows viruses to thrive.
Some Reasons to LOVE your humidifier (or get one if you don’t have one):
- It helps your respiratory system (throat, mouth, lungs & nasal passages) stay moist. This helps you in many ways, including – recovering from illnesses faster, preventing nose bleeds and reducing snoring. If you live with a loud snorer this is an awesome benefit!!
- The reptile look is not a good look for us humans so having a humidifier on in the winter is most helpful at keeping dry, scaly skin at bay and it also helps with relieving other skin aliments like psoriasis and eczema which get worse when the air is really dry.
- Reducing static electricity – I just don’t care to be shocked every time I open a door so I really appreciate this “pro” to keeping a little moisture in the air.
- If you have hardwood floors in your home or lots of wood furniture it also helps them from drying out and cracking.
The right amount of moisture in your home is enormously beneficial and the optimal amount to have is between 30 and 50%.
