Has your HVAC unit been serviced lately? Before you know it we will all be running our A/C’s non-stop as cool morning air gives way to “pretty warm” air all the time. We know it’s coming, but still procrastinate on preparing for it. So, before you switch on that lovely piece of equipment that saves us from sweltering all summer long, there are a few things you need to do in order for it to perform as intended.
The number one, without a doubt, thing you need to do before turning it on is:
Call a Professional to Service Your HVAC Unit
A few things that come in second place to that is:
- Check your thermostat – is it out of date? Is it so out of date that it is not programmable? If so, this is an inexpensive replacement that will save you money down the road, if you take the time to program it. For the hours no one is at home or even during the night if everyone is soundly sleeping under ceiling fans, have the temperature slightly higher. You don’t have to go crazy and buy a really fancy one that sync’s with your phone, although those are amazing as well.
- Change your air filter – every 3 months people, just do it. This not only saves you money because your air conditioner will run efficiently, but it also makes sure the air you are breathing has been filtered.
- Check air vents – walk through your home and remove anything that blocks your vents such as drapes, toys, curtains, and a pile of dust bunnies…
Those are the easiest things to handle on your own, but there are many other things that need to be checked and it’s best for a professional to work through their checklist. Everything from coils to drain lines need to be inspected before running your air conditioner.
