It’s Memorial Day weekend and for most of us that means school is out and summer has begun. It is time for pool parties, BBQ’s, popsicles and road trips. It also means a brief break from homework battles, endless activities and schedules. It is officially time for fun!
With all the fun comes a lot of summertime heat and a lot of running the air conditioner in order to cool down. Your air conditioner not only cools your home down, it also removes moisture from the air in order to lower the humidity level inside your home.
The excess water is drained from the unit through a small pipe that runs to the outside of your home. Over time this drainpipe can become clogged with algae, mold and mildew. When that happens it can cause the water to back up and over flow inside the air conditioning unit and into your home. This is bad news and can be anything from a small little clean up to quit a bit of damage being done if it goes unnoticed for a while.
The easiest way to prevent this from happening is to pour a cup of bleach in the access opening in the drain line that is close to the air conditioning unit in order to kill any of the mold, mildew or algae that may be building up in the pipe. If you do this once a month while you are running you’re A/C it will save you a lot of trouble and a little flooding down the road.
If you are concerned your drain line may already be clogged give Carmine’s a call at 203-791-8089 to have your air conditioner serviced and ready for the hot months ahead of us with no cooling problems at all. Have a wonderful long weekend and Memorial Day!
