May is moving right along and pretty soon it will be every kid’s dream: June, July and August! Let’s be honest though, summer is NOT just for kids. As soon as the nights start getting longer and the days heat up a bit, we are all ready to shirk our day-to-day duties and enjoy our summer.
You can’t really enjoy the summer time, though, until you spruce up a bit. The grill will need a good cleaning and it would help to knock a little winter off the patio. Sprucing up the décor with some bright summery colors and some deck lighting goes a long too. Just letting the outdoors in makes everything feel more relaxed and fresh. Throw your windows open and if you notice a screen or two that is broken, they are actually pretty easy to repair so you can still let fresh air in while keeping bugs out.
For the inside of your home, change your air filter immediately. It has been sitting there months just collecting odors. Please throw it out and put a new one in before turning on your air conditioner; your whole house will thank you. Also, go ahead and have it serviced. It is way better to find out you need something repaired or replaced before it breaks. You may not even have a problem and a thorough cleaning of your unit will leave you set up for a problem free summer.
Make sure you have your fan blades switched to counterclockwise so they help the room to feel cooler. You can also help the air in your home by adding a few indoor plants to your décor. Remove all the rotting wood out of fireplace and spruce it up by adding some large ferns or peace lily’s around it.
Spring and summer are the times to shake off winter, so throw an outdoor party and enjoy the warm sun in your face (with proper sunscreen of course). Have some friends over, plant a garden or take a trip, whatever it is that makes you feel like a kid during summer again – do it. Life is short and winter is always coming sooner than we want.
