November 11, Veterans Day, is approaching and while it is not a holiday that is as fun-filled for kids as say Halloween or Christmas, it is a holiday that deserves just as much attention and recognition as the others.
It is not just a day off of work or school. It is day to honor the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Many people do not know the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day, but it is very simple – Memorial Day is a day to remember the people who lost their lives while serving. Veterans Day is a day that honors ALL veterans, living and dead, and those who served their country both in times of peace and while at war.
It is irrelevant how you personally feel about controversy’s or all out wars that our country is in or has been involved in. The men and women who chose to protect our country and follow our government down whatever path they lead chose to do so at great sacrifice not only to themselves but also their family and loved ones. They deserve not only our recognition on this one particular day of the year, but our also our respect and gratitude every day.
If you know a veteran, please take a moment to thank them for their service or do something nice for them as appreciation for serving our country in the best way they knew how. It may just be the first time anyone has ever thanked them properly.
